Announcing NEW Charity Cancer RockstarMar 15, 2010(eMusicWire.Org) – Cancer Rockstar, a non-profit organization for cancer survivors residing throughout the United States, was launched February 2010 by Meredith Bezak (Greater Detroit) and Rhiannon Capling (Greater Tampa). College friends, Bezak and Capling’s mission is to unite cancer fighters and survivors with their favorite band through free concert tickets, autographed band merchandise, and personalized messages to cancer survivors from band members. Additional monies raised by the organization will be donated for cancer awareness, research, and support groups.
“My grandmother battled cancer, and I was with her throughout her fight,” said Director and Co-Founder, Meredith Bezak. “Her strength and will to live was like no other. She eventually lost her battle, but she lived six years when she was only expected to live six months. Much of that success could be attributed to her attitude. Music was a big motivator for her, too.” But it wasn’t until Rhiannon Capling, Co-Founder of Cancer Rockstar, lost her mother to lung cancer in 2007 that the founders discussed the idea of the charity. “My mom Marcia was the true definition of a Rockstar. Her love of music was almost as big as her heart. She was an inspiration to everyone she met, I know people often say that but if you met Marcia for even one moment you left feeling as if you had a new best friend. Music provided her with dreams, passion and hope. Meredith and I hope that Cancer Rockstar will help to inspire those feelings in the brave Rockstars we are looking to support!” stated Rhiannon Capling. More information about Cancer Rockstar can be found at www.CancerRockstar.org. The group also applied for a 25k Refresh Everything Grant from Pepsi. Since the group maintained a foothold in the top 100 entries this past February, Cancer Rockstar is automatically eligible for the next drawing this month. Meredith and Rhiannon are trying to encourage the daily vote necessary to win the grant through their social media outlets on Facebook and Twitter. # # #
