Email Friend Contact Author (eMusicWire.Org) – Young music bands rocked the house at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 6 on behalf of New Eyes for the Needy. Local area teens sang, strummed, and drummed to raise over $8700 for new prescription eyeglasses for poor children living in the United States. Sponsored by The School of Rock, Chatham, the concert entertained friends, family and music lovers for over two hours as the bands played on.
The young musicians “were amazing!” New Eyes for the Needy Board President Clelia Biamonti said. “The level of talent and dedication that we saw among the performers was really inspirational.” Dr. Biamonti sent out “a special thank you to all the kids for all they did to help over 100 children have a better future with clear vision. I am so very proud of these kids.” Summit resident and chair of the concert committee Sam Taggart said he was happy that the committee’s hard work and commitment could benefit children. “I feel really passionate about what we’re doing here and how much we’ve helped. I had no idea we could do so much for an organization with just a concert by getting a couple of friends together and a few bands. It’s just awesome to spend time with friends and family to support kids doing what they love to do and doing it for a good cause.” At a total of $8,751, this year’s event raised $1000 more than last year’s inaugural Kids Rock for Vision concert and expectations for a larger fundraiser are developing for next year. New Eyes for the Needy has improved the vision of over 7 million people since its founding in 1932. The loyal support of people throughout the United States makes this possible through their cash contributions; their donation of used eyeglasses, hearing aids, jewelry and giftware; and their dedicated volunteerism. # # #
