Email Friend Contact Author (eMusicWire.Org) – As many as 10 area bands will rock Crystal Gardens in Southgate March 21 as they compete to be one of the featured acts at this summer’s PNC Roar on the River.
Slated to run continuously from 3 to 11 p.m., the event is open to the public. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. The list of competitors was still being finalized, but those that have entered thus far include Hidden Agenda Band, Passport to Nowhere, Wisteria, Atrius, Sykofish, Gonzo, The Groove Riders, and Wyandotte Station. “We are incredibly excited that our committee, donors, and bands are so committed to this event,” said Linda Francetich, the coordinator. “Their generous talent, time, and resources will make this an exceptional occasion. We even have race boats and their drivers who will be in attendance — plus a few surprises.” This “Battle of the Bands” is the kickoff of a three-step competition that will include follow-up events May 1 and June 11. The final results will determine the entertainment lineup for “Rock the River,” the Saturday, July 24, outdoor concert planned during the three-day Roar on the River. Audience members on hand at Crystal Gardens will get to participate in the selection process. The Battle of the Bands, like the PNC Roar on the River, is being organized by Trenton Rotary Club. The bands that are chosen as the winners of the competition will play prior to lead act Category 5 at the July 24 concert. “This is Step 1 of a process that ultimately will result in a great music festival at the boat races in July,” Francetich said. “Step 2 is the May 1 event at the Comedy Club at Portofino in Wyandotte; Step 3 is the Battle Finale at Rack and Roll in Riverview.” Attendees at Battle of the Bands will be eligible for a variety of door prizes and raffles. Some of the items that have been donated as prizes include tickets to Sportsway in Brownstown, tickets to The Comedy Club fundraiser May 1, tickets to the Battle of the Band finale June 11, and tickets to “A Taste of the Races,” the Friday, July 23, Elizabeth Park kickoff to the Roar that features nearly 40 restaurants and entertainment by Fifty Amp Fuse. A&R Music and Mike Carey Music each have donated a guitar that will be signed by each band and raffled off as the grand door prize. Advance tickets are available at The Rehab Connection, PKSA Karate, Slick Disc and Paragrafix, all in Trenton; JDubs and Rack and Roll in Riverview; and Crystal Gardens.
