Fred Net Radio station owner, Keith Angstadt, knew at a young age that he wanted to be in broadcasting. He began his career at the age of 11 in ham radio in Philadelphia, PA. By the time Keith reached age 17 in 1962, he landed his first job for WFLS Radio out of Fredericksburg, VA as a Boy Friday, fetching coffee for the DJs. But, within six months, he was holding a microphone in his hands broadcasting live on Sunday mornings. He soon became Chief Engineer and Drive Time Announcer until departing to build a TV station, WHFV-TV.

WHFV-TV was an affiliate of NBC-TV where Keith was the VP, General Manager, and Director of Technical Operations. Keith aired weekly editorials and local news inserts with the “Today Show.” After WHFV-TV was sold in 1976, Keith departed to return to radio where he would spend his next 25 years with The Mutual Broadcasting System, out of Arlington, VA. Mutual Broadcasting introduced the country to The Larry King Show, where it was common to see The President(s) and all of their secret service personnel, along with celebrity personalities including Bob Hope, whom Keith met personally. His career with Mutual sent him to NY, Culver City, CA, and other locations used by the network. While working out of WNEW-AM in NY on “The Make Believe Ballroom”, Keith met Rosemary Clooney and Don Pardo, and he was even introduced to Betty White.

After Keith’s retirement in the summer of 2008, he decided to start an internet broadcast station playing the music that he loved to play back in 1972. Knowing that internet broadcasting was a growing technology and still developing, he believed in the wave of the future that might allow the little guy a level playing field while competing with the broadcast conglomerates.

On October 20, 2008, http://www.frednetradio.com commenced broadcasting. The station is a family effort with Keith’s four daughters, one son, and six grandchildren all at the helm at one time or another. Keith says, “While we have not made a cent yet, it has been a labor of love and my hobby.”

During the summer of 2009 Keith’s path crossed with Mike DeVita of Baltimore, MD. “Mike and I share tastes in music that are so similar they are almost identical. Our main interest is Doris Day, the person and her music. This is how Mike has become one of our staff announcers.”
