(eMusicWire.Org) – I just returned from a concert with the rock group Cracker, a band whose music I’ve listened to and admired for many years. Tickets for the show were a birthday gift, and I couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate.

Cracker was first formed as Camper Van Beethoven in 1984, the year they released a song called Take the Skinheads Bowling. They wised up pretty soon after that, and in 1990 they became Cracker. Although sometimes, they still appear as Camper Van Beethoven. I'd known about them since the 80s, but first heard of Cracker five or six years ago on Jeff Pulver's internet radio station, Pulver Radio, and I became a fan right away.

Last night the band put on a great show in a little dive that can’t make up its mind whether it wants to be a rock club or a disco. Cracker plays a funky mix of blues and rock, and a hearty core of fans and friends turned out to make sure the club rocked to every note the band played.

The show began on time with a solid half hour of songs from Cracker’s new album Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey and featured their new single Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out With Me. The group continued to play music through the night with favorites from their past 11 albums, and built the evening to end with the irresistible groove of Been Around the World from the 1998 album Gentleman’s Blues. The place went nuts.

We were all happy to share in the music and performance that made the night an event. Through cyberspace, I was able to discover and learn more about a great band that makes music I love to listen to; through Spacelocker, I can share it with my friends.
